New Version 1.1.0 — share with your household, Cook Mode and more →

Know what’s for dinner. All week.

Menu Planner 2 turns the meals you plan into one shopping list, sorted the way you walk the store. When it’s time to cook, it takes you through the recipe one step at a time.

How it works

Plan once. Everything else follows.

Your meal plan, your recipes, your pantry and your shopping list all know about each other — so planning dinner is the only thing you have to think about.

Plan your week

Tap a day and add a recipe, or let Suggest Meals fill the whole week from recipes you already love. Drag meals between days when plans change.

Shop once

Pick the days you’re shopping for, and everything those meals need goes on your list — with the right amounts, minus what you already have, sorted by aisle.

Cook without the stress

Cook Mode shows one step at a time in big type, the ingredients each step uses, and a timer for every time in the recipe. Your screen stays on.

Features

Everything a home cook needs. Nothing they don’t.

Meal planning

Never ask “what’s for dinner?” again

See your whole week at a glance, with your own meal types — breakfast, school lunch, Sunday roast, whatever fits your family.

  • Suggest Meals fills a day or a week from your own recipes. Shuffle any you don’t fancy.
  • Drag a meal to another day, and choose to move it or copy it.
  • Save a day or a meal you make often as a template, and add it again in one tap.
  • A profile for each person, each with their own plan and nutrition goals.
  • A reminder when it’s time to start cooking, based on the recipe’s prep and cook times.
  • Your meals in the Calendar app, kept up to date as your plan changes.

Shopping list

Your week becomes one grocery list

Every ingredient for every planned meal, added up and sorted in the order you walk your store. No more doubling back for the cumin.

  • Things you already have stay off the list. Salt never shows up again.
  • Set up each store’s aisles once — after a few trips, the app offers the order you actually shop in.
  • Open your list at the store and it switches to that store by itself.
  • Track prices at each store, see a running total, and find the best-value size.
  • Scan a barcode to add something new, with its nutrition filled in.
  • Separate lists for the holidays, a camping trip, or someone else’s groceries.
Cook Mode: one step in large type, a running timer, and the ingredients that step uses
Cooking

Cook step by step. Timers built in.

A recipe screen made for a phone propped against the fruit bowl, with floury hands.

  • Cook Mode: one step at a time, in big type, with the ingredients that step uses.
  • Tap “simmer 15 to 20 minutes” to start a timer. Run as many as you need.
  • Timers show on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and ring even on silent.
  • Double a recipe or halve it, and every amount updates — ranges included.
  • Show amounts in cups and spoons or in metric, with grams where the weight is known.

Recipes

Every recipe, in one place

From the family cookbook, your favorite food blog, or the back of a card in Grandma’s handwriting.

  • Save recipes from most recipe websites — search the web without leaving the app.
  • Scan a page of a cookbook with the camera, pull one out of a photo, paste it, or read it out loud.
  • A recipe in another language offers to translate itself, right on your device.
  • Photos, tags, ratings, favorites and notes. Recipes without a photo get a drawing that fits.
  • Filter by tags, ingredients, nutrition, price or what you have — and save the filters you use.
  • Export all your recipes to a standard file any time. Your recipes are yours.

Pantry

Stop buying what you already have

Keep count of your food as closely — or as loosely — as you like.

  • Cook a planned meal and what it used comes out of your pantry.
  • Clear your cart after shopping and your pantry is restocked.
  • Running low? It goes on your list, counting what this week’s meals will need.
  • Expiration dates, where things live (pantry, freezer, garage) and prices at every store.
  • Or keep it simple: just “have it” or “don’t”.

Nutrition

Hit your goals without counting

Nutrition is worked out from your recipes’ ingredients, so it’s there when you want it and out of the way when you don’t.

  • Choose the nutrients you care about and give each one a goal.
  • Each day shows a bar per nutrient; the iPad week view shows the whole week.
  • Scan a nutrition label — even one in another language — or look a food up online.
  • Goals start from official recommended values, and you can change any of them.
New · Household sharing

One kitchen. Everyone in it.

Invite up to five people — a partner, the kids, a roommate — to share your recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and pantry. Everyone uses their own phone, tablet or Mac with their own sign-in.

  • Something checked off at the store disappears from everyone’s list within moments.
  • The shopping list shows who added each item.
  • Each person opens the app on their own meal plan.
  • One Premium + Sync subscription covers the whole household. Joining is free.

Coming from the original Menu Planner?

Welcome back. I made the original app too, and I rebuilt Menu Planner 2 from scratch. If the original app is on the same iPhone or iPad, Menu Planner 2 offers to bring over your recipes, pantry, meal plans, shopping list, stores, tags, templates and profiles in a couple of taps. Nothing in the original app is changed.

How bringing your data over works →

Coming from another recipe app?

Bring all your recipes over at once — photos, ingredients, steps, times, ratings and favorites, where the other app keeps them.

Works with exports from Paprika, Mela, Crouton, Recipe Keeper, Plan to Eat, Copy Me That, My Recipe Box, CookBook, Pestle, Flavorish, Grocery, MacGourmet, MasterCook, Meal-Master, Nextcloud Cookbook, RecipeSage and Tandoor. Got a list of recipe links? Paste them all in at once.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need an account?

No. Menu Planner 2 opens straight to your Home screen, and everything stays on your device. You only need a free account for Premium + Sync, to sync between devices or share with your household. There’s no password: sign in with a code sent to your email, or with Apple or Google.

Is it really free?

Yes. Meal planning, recipes, recipe import, Cook Mode, the shopping list sorted by aisle and pantry tracking are all free, with no ads and no time limit. Premium adds things like Suggest Meals, more lists and profiles, and pantry photos. Premium + Sync adds syncing, backup and household sharing.

Which devices does it work on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.6 or later, Mac with macOS 26 or later, and Android phones and tablets with Android 12 or later. The free version works on each one by itself. With Premium + Sync and a free account, your recipes, meal plans, lists and pantry stay the same on all of them, so you can plan on the Mac and shop with your phone.

Can my family use it too?

Yes. With Premium + Sync, invite up to five people to your household. Each person signs in on their own device, and you all share the same recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and pantry. One subscription covers everyone, and joining is free.

What happens if I cancel Premium + Sync?

Your data stays on your device and syncing stops. If you’ve paid for eight months (they don’t have to be in a row), or bought a year, the Premium features stay unlocked for good in the app you subscribed in.

I used the original Menu Planner. Can I bring my data?

Yes. If the original app is on the same device, Menu Planner 2 offers to bring over your recipes, pantry, meal plans, shopping list, stores, tags, templates and profiles. The original app’s data isn’t changed. More about moving in.

I use the original Menu Planner. Where do I sign in?

The original app’s website is still there for you. Sign in with your Menu Planner sync account to manage your data, just as before. When you’re ready to move to Menu Planner 2, install it on the same iPhone or iPad and it offers to bring everything over.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Your meal plans, recipes, pantry and lists live on your device, so you can plan and shop in a store with no signal. Things that look something up — importing from a website, barcode and nutrition lookup, image search — need a connection, and syncing catches up when you’re back online.

Which languages does it come in?

English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil) and Italian. It follows your device’s language, or you can choose one just for Menu Planner 2.

Where can I get help?

Browse the help guide, or write to me. I read every message myself.
