Tap a step in the directions to highlight the ingredients it uses; the Directions heading then says which step you’re on. Tap it again to let it go. Recipes without a photo show a drawing based on their name, at the top of the recipe and on their Kitchen card.

Turn either off in Settings → Recipe Display with Highlight Step Ingredients and Illustrated Placeholders. With Highlight Step Ingredients off, Cook Mode doesn’t show For this step or underline ingredients either. Show Amounts In is there too. These settings are kept on each device.
