When a step mentions a time, like “simmer 15 to 20 minutes”, a timer button appears under it. Tap it to start, tap again to pause or carry on, and tap the ✕ to reset it. For a range it counts down the shorter time. When it’s up, the button says Done; tap it to clear it.

You can have several timers going at once, in one recipe or several. They keep going when you leave the recipe or lock your phone. Running timers also show on Home; tap one to go back to its step.

On iOS 26 or later each timer is an alarm: it rings even when your phone is on silent, counts down on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and has Stop and Open Recipe buttons. Allow alarms the first time you’re asked. If you don’t, or on earlier versions of iOS, you get a notification instead, so allow notifications.

Times written in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian get a timer.
